After Spain, another European country bans US planes from using military base

Authorities in Italy prevented a US plane traveling to the Middle East from landing at a military base in Sicily.

According to Italian state television RAI, Italy's Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, denied a US request for the planes to use the Sigonella base, which was received when the planes were already in the air.

"No one had requested authorization or consulted the Italian military leadership. The plan was communicated while the planes were already in flight and checks revealed that these were not normal or logistical flights and therefore not covered by the treaty with Italy ," according to Italian media. 

A day earlier, Spain's Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, announced that the country would not authorize the use of its military bases or airspace for any activity related to the joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran, calling it deeply illegal. /CNA
