Egyptian President: Only Trump can stop the war in the Middle East

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on US President Donald Trump to stop the war in Iran, saying fears that oil prices will reach above $200 a barrel have been growing.

"I say to President Trump: no one can stop the war in our Gulf region except you ," Sisi said at the Egypt Energy Show 2026 conference in Cairo.

Underlining the impact of supply shortages and rising prices, the Egyptian president cited analysts’ concerns that the price of a barrel of oil could reach over $200, and this is no exaggeration.

Egypt, which has received military aid from the United States and support from wealthy Gulf states for years, has condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf countries and is pushing for diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider regional war.

For his part, the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Alboudaywi, urged the international community to protect vital maritime corridors, condemning Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks on regional energy infrastructure. He added that Iranian aggression poses a threat to the world.

"Iran's brutal threats against energy facilities and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz are not only a flagrant violation of international law, but also a direct threat to global energy ," he said.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, members of the GCC, have been targeted by drone and missile attacks since the start of the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28. /CNA
