"We will return Iran to the Stone Age"/ Oil prices rise after Trump's statements

Oil prices rose and stocks fell today, following statements by US President Donald Trump that attacks on Iran will continue for the next two to three weeks.

Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil, rose 6.6% to nearly $108 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude rose 6.3% to nearly $106.4 a barrel.

Stock markets, on the other hand, fell after gains made earlier in the week. South Korea's Kospi index led losses in Asia, down 4.5%.

In Europe, major indexes were mostly down and US futures contracts also pointed to a lower opening.

President Trump, in his address to the American nation on the war with Iran, said that the conflict is nearing an end, while warning that the US is prepared to intensify its military response and threatening to return Iran "to the Stone Age." /CNA
