Son of Iran's last Shah, Pahlavi: Islamic Republic will fall, I will return

The exiled son of Iran's last Shah, Reza Pahlavi, declared at a press conference in Washington that the current political system of the Islamic Republic will fall due to massive protests by the population.

He added that not only does he see this as safe, but that he will also return to Iran as soon as the time comes.

Pahlavi, who has lived in the US since 1979, has called for the international community to help the protesters, seeking intervention to weaken the regime's repressive capacities and protect citizens who are rising up against the government.

Mass protests against the Iranian government have been ongoing for weeks and have been violently suppressed by authorities, with at least thousands killed, according to human rights groups.

Despite the violence, there are also groups that are taking armed action to protect protesters.
