Powerful explosion in the Netherlands / 4 injured, battle with flames continues

An explosion accompanied by fire occurred this afternoon in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

As local media reports, the municipality and security region of Utrecht reported that a very large fire broke out in a house after people heard a loud noise.

At least four people were injured in the incident. Mayor Sharon Dijksma stressed that everything is now focused on verifying whether there are people under the rubble.

Firefighters are still working to put out the fire. At least 10 ambulances are at the scene. Several streets around the building are closed. The University Medical Center in Utrecht is opening a special department at the hospital after the explosion and fire.

Dutch news agency ANP confirmed that the building next to where the fire is raging has partially collapsed. /CNA
