Ten migrants drown in the Mediterranean Sea, 51 others are rescued

Ten migrants died in the Mediterranean after their boat capsized, but 51 other people on board were rescued, a German charity said on Monday. 

RESQSHIP, which runs a migrant rescue vessel called the Nadir, said on social media platform "X" that it had found the 61 people aboard a flooded wooden boat. 

The charity said two of those who survived were unconscious and receiving medical attention, adding that they were in critical need of emergency evacuation.

The United Nations has recorded more than 20,000 deaths and disappearances in the central Mediterranean since 2014, making it the world's most dangerous migrant crossing. /CNA
