The leaders of the countries of the European Union will meet on Monday evening in Brussels, in the first attempt to reach an agreement on the new names of the heads of the EU institutions, the European Commission, the European Council, and the new name in the position of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security.

This will be the first meeting of European leaders, after the elections held in EU member states, on June 6-9.

The result of the elections will be reflected in the new names at the head of the European institutions.

The main suggestions are expected to be made to the politicians who belong to the parties that won the most votes in the European elections.

Although a significant increase in far-right parties has been observed in these elections, the traditional parties of the center-right and left, the European People's Party and the Social-Democrats have been ranked first and second, respectively.

The candidacy of the current head of the EU, Ursula von der Leyen, is certain, but now the leaders of the EU countries are looking for new names for the positions held by Charles Michel and Josep Borrell.

The only sure candidacy is that of Ursula von der Leyen, who aims for re-election for a second five-year term at the head of the European Commission - the executive institution of the EU.

The likelihood that the leaders will agree on her candidacy is high, considering that she is from the European People's Party.

After EU leaders vote on the candidate for EU leadership, the proposal later goes to the European Parliament, which must then approve or reject the proposal.

If the candidacy of Ursula von der Leyen is confirmed, then the candidates for the leadership of the European Council and for the position of the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security must be from the ranks of European Social Democrats and liberals.

The role of the president of the European Council is to chair meetings at the level of EU leaders and to improve the work of the European Council.

The EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy has a dual role.

The official who holds this position is one of the vice-presidents of the European Commission and has the role of the head of European diplomacy.

There are various speculations about the politicians who would replace Michel and Borrell in these positions.

The names that have the greatest chances for these positions, according to unofficial information, are that of the former Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, for the position of President of the European Council, and that of the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, for the position of Chief Diplomat of the EU. .

However, it is not known whether EU leaders will agree on these names.

Ideally, but not necessarily, the June 17 summit ends with an agreement.

In case an agreement is not reached, the next opportunity to discuss this issue is the regular summit that will be held on June 27 and 28./ Rel
