Norway announced on Sunday that it will donate $103 million to Ukraine to help fix its energy infrastructure.

"Russia is carrying out massive systematic attacks to destroy the energy grid, but the Ukrainians are working day and night to ensure the necessary supply of electricity to the population," said Norway's Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store.

According to new estimates, more than 50 percent of Ukraine's power generation capacity has been destroyed, the government said.

"We are in close talks with Ukraine on how it can use this money. Ukrainians know best what is needed," said Store.

He added that it is important to start repairing the energy network before winter comes.

Some of the money will be used for repairs in the Kharkiv region, which has been hit particularly hard by Russian attacks in recent months, he said.

Ukraine announced earlier this week that it will continue to import electricity in record amounts to make up for power shortages caused by Russia's ongoing attacks on its energy infrastructure.

Ukraine's power grid operator Ukrenerho said on June 14 that it will import 31,904 megawatt hours of electricity, breaking the previous record of 29,796 megawatt hours imported earlier this week.

Russia has stepped up missile and drone attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure since March, causing frequent power cuts.
