Knife attack in a metro station, 14 injured

14 people were injured on Thursday after a man drove his car into a pedestrian crossing and then started attacking them with a knife.

The incident happened near a subway station in the city of Seongnam, south of Seoul.

Nine people were stabbed and five others were injured after the suspect drove a car into the crosswalk before the stabbing, Gyeonggi Provincial Government Member Lee Ki-in said in a statement on Facebook.

Of the 14 injured, 12 were seriously injured and two people suffered minor injuries, according to the Gyeonggi-do Fire Services.

Police arrested the suspect 10 minutes after the incident was reported, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

Just days ago, one person was killed and others were injured in another stabbing attack in Seoul. However, such incidents are rare in South Korea, where violent crime is low./CNA.al
