"We remain a close family"/ Canada's Prime Minister and his wife

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie have divorced after 18 years of marriage, after as a couple they have been involved in many arguments in recent years, reports the BBC.

The couple, parents of three children, said that they will try to have very good relations for their children, who do not want them to stress. 

The couple have asked for privacy for the "wellbeing" of their children, Xavier, 15, Ella-Grace, 14, and Hadrien, 9.

"We remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for all that we have built and will continue to build," said Trudeau, 51, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, 48.

In a statement, Canada's prime minister's office said that while the couple had signed a separation agreement, they would continue to go public.

They have been seen together in public less often in recent years, although they attended the coronation of King Charles III together in May and hosted US President Joe Biden in Canada in March./ CNA.al
