Kujtim Cakrani, the lawyer of former President Ilir Meta, declared today that the security measures against him are turning into an inquisition.

Invited to the show 'The Exposed', Cakrani stated that Meta's battle is not with the prosecution, but with the decision to keep him in detention even though there is no risk of evidence being destroyed.

"After 7 months of preliminary hearings and dozens of court hearings, the judicial investigation was finally ended. We have nothing to do with the prosecution, our battle is with the court, because the prosecution can go crazy. Ms. Gjoka has reported all our evidence, accepted our requests, admitted that the investigations are incomplete, witnesses need to be questioned, but has not decided to return the case for re-investigation, to assign the relevant tasks, but has said, you can request these on the merits. The judge of the preliminary hearing, who filters the investigative process, checks whether the file is complete or not, has decided to move it to trial. Meta himself has been to move it to trial as soon as possible because he will face trial. But we as lawyers have asked why the president should remain in detention, when he cannot destroy the evidence, there is no risk of removal, and so on.
