Oil price increase/ Karakaçi: Taxation at the gas station, a fairer

Following the government meeting, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, clarified the government's approach regarding the price of oil and the possibility of establishing a board to manage the fuel market.

According to him, Albania is following a similar model to European Union countries for the circulation tax, but with a fundamental change in the way it is collected. “We have judged that collecting the circulation tax at the gas station is the best tool, since those who use the vehicles the most pay more,” the minister said.

Karakaçi stressed that institutions are constantly monitoring the fuel market, both in Albania and in the countries of the region, to understand developments and take timely measures. He added that price dynamics and the factors that influence them are being carefully followed.

Regarding supply concerns, the minister assured that the situation remains stable. According to him, the Strait of Hormuz does not pose a threat to the country's supply, as over 90% of fuel products come through alternative routes.

Finally, he announced that the market intervention mechanism is ready and can be activated immediately, if necessary.

"We have followed the model for circulation taxes that is in all EU countries but is separate. We have judged that collecting circulation tax at the gas station is the best tool because those who use more vehicles pay more taxes."

We are following the fuel market and what is happening in the countries of the region.

"We are seeing the dynamics. The Strait of Hormuz is not a supply problem for Albanians. Over 90% of products come from other routes. The mechanism is there and can be set up immediately," Karakaçi said./ CNA
