The military advisor to Iran's supreme leader, Mohsen Rezaei, said in an interview with foreign media that negotiations between Tehran and Washington to end the war are mainly affected by the issue of frozen Iranian assets abroad.

Iran has been under US sanctions for decades, which have created problems in its economic system. After all, after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the country's assets abroad were frozen.

"If President Trump wants to reach a deal with Iran, this $24 billion is a proof" of his credibility, Rezaei said in an interview with CNN.

There is no official data on the amount of frozen Iranian assets, but local media recently reported that they range from $100 billion to $123 billion.

Iran has made the release of part of this amount a condition for any deal with the US to end the war. /CNA
