"'Smart City' violates the freedom and privacy of citizens"/

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a press conference today. Berisha spoke out against the "Smart City" project, saying it violates the privacy of Albanians and monitors their movements.

Among other things, he added that this project is theft on a grand scale and with inflated prices. The chief democrat stated that the DP will raise the issue of this project in international institutions.

"I am before you to denounce the 'Smart City' project. It aims at the complete surveillance of every citizen. With this project, Edi Rama completes the most illegal surveillance of Albanians and their privacy. This project is putting citizens under control and is thoroughly corrupt. The 'Smart City' system records not only the location, but also the complete image of citizens. The prices offered for the implementation of this project are from 10 to 30 times the prices for these devices on the market. If a police body camera costs 15,700 euros in this project, it can be purchased anywhere for 1,500 euros.

If the street camera costs 52 thousand euros, this camera can be freely purchased for 2 thousand euros. So, it is 25 times more expensive. A theft on a grand scale, this project has cost 157 million euros, 15 times more than in India. I condemn with the greatest force such a project as a theft of unbridled proportions, as a major violation and infringement of the security and privacy of Albanians. They can no longer go to each other without the Cyclops' Eye behind them. The DP will also raise this issue in international institutions, as it is a violation of human rights", said Berisha. /CNA
