The next hearing for the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is taking place today at the Criminal Court of Albania. The mayor faces 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

SPAK has closed the file and sent it for trial. Veliaj is using various tactics to avoid facing justice. The reason for the postponement of the last session was the mayor's claim that they had not brought him to the session on time.

But it turned out to be a lie and this was discovered by the Directorate of Prisons itself. In its public reaction, the Directorate General of Prisons clarified that the allegations by Erion Veliaj were untrue and that they had notified Veliaj in time about the preparation and departure for the court session.

"Prison Police vehicles were present at the IEVP premises at the scheduled time. At the time of notification, Veliaj refused to leave, claiming that the Prison Police vehicle was delayed," the reaction emphasized.

SPAK has also had an official reaction regarding Veliaj's continuous postponement of hearings, emphasizing that they are unjustified.

Until yesterday, the mayor claimed that he was being held in prison without charges, while now there are charges, there are documents, evidence, facts taken to court with a file of about 60 thousand pages and Erion Veliaj does not go to face, but flees from facing justice./ CNA
