From the Conference of Speakers to the plenary session / The new parliamentary

Today, the new parliamentary session begins, while the first plenary session for 2026 will be held. At 11:00, the meeting of the Conference of Speakers will take place, where the calendar and work agenda for the next five weeks will be determined.

Then, at 12:30, a meeting of the Committee on Civic Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight will be held.

On the agenda of the parliamentary committee meeting is the approval of work plans for the request from the High Judicial Council for security in the courts and for the request from the Financial Intelligence Agency. 

Meanwhile, the plenary session will begin at 5:00 PM, and the agenda does not include any laws to be approved, but debates are expected. 

PLENARY SESSION AGENDA:

In support of order no. 2, dated 12.1.2026 of the President of the Assembly, Mr. Niko Peleshi, the agenda is as follows:

1. Opening of the proceedings of the II session of the XI Legislature. (In accordance with Article 74, point 1, of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and Article 42 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly) The Chairmen of the parliamentary groups shall speak (no more than 10 minutes)

2. Approval of the minutes of the plenary session of 18.12.2025. (Article 44, point 2, of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly)

3. Announcements. (Article 44, point 3, of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly)

At the end of the last session, opposition MPs boycotted the meetings of the parliamentary committees and special committees on Territorial Reform and Electoral Reform. It remains to be seen whether the opposition will continue with the boycott or not. /CNA
