Tourist season/Balla: We learned from the mistakes of the past, we guarantee

The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, was in Vlora this Monday, where he held meetings with State Police officers involved in the smooth running of the tourist season.

Balla said that they will guarantee every vacationer a quiet, beautiful and safe vacation in Albania.

He said that we have learned a lot from the mistakes of the past and we should not tolerate any of those mistakes to be repeated.

Taulant Balla's full speech:

I wanted to come personally to thank you, all the departments, that are involved in this important mission of the smooth running of the tourist season; - Traffic Police, "Renea" department, "Delta" forces, Maritime Police Unit, naturally also other departments, "Eagles" and everyone involved in this important mission that we have, to guarantee every local or foreign vacationer foreigners so that holidays in Albania are safe. The truth is that everything went well. So far we have had no incidents, which have happened in the past. What we need is to continue the work with this intensity that we have started.

This intensity must continue. We will allow everyone to use the sea, because the truth is that it is part of a certain dimension of tourism.

But at no time endanger the lives of vacationers, and naturally, the lives of those who use these tools. Therefore our role is a preventive role, and we will continue to be present in all our maritime space to control and guarantee once again what I said at the beginning, – the life of every vacationer!

We have learned a lot from the mistakes of the past and we must not tolerate any of those mistakes from happening again! This beautiful combination between all our departments makes it possible for us to intervene in time for any problem.

I take the opportunity to thank all of you here, because you are all involved, even in cases of immediate assistance to people who had problems at sea, or even lost, whether in Karaburun or in other areas, where thanks to your willingness , it has become possible to find and save not only local tourists, but also foreigners, as was the case of an Italian citizen during the past week.

So we need to continue this full readiness that you have. Here then this is also related to the main reason why I am going to all our departments, police stations and directorates, to guarantee that the support of the government, of Prime Minister Rama, will continue to be even greater for the employees of the State Police . We need to increase and improve the financial treatment and I am very sure that in the 2024 budget, we will have a significant increase in salaries for the basic levels of the State Police.

This increased attention of the government is also due to the good results that the State Police is achieving, with many important operations, which attack certain crime phenomena. Crime is only hit if we hit it systematically!
Here then comes another moment related to the Code of Ethics within the State Police forces.

For many years, we have had problems related to the flow of information within the structure of the State Police, and this resulted in the failure of our police operations.

I think we are well on our way to cutting the threads within the State Police that leak information and betray the actions of the State Police. Today we are actually in a bitter day for the State Police, because 20 years ago, Commissioner Gani Malushi was hit by the hand of crime. And meanwhile, 14 years ago, in a police action, 4 officers of our special structure fell in the line of duty during an operation to arrest a very wanted person.
