Peak of seasonal viruses/ Over two thousand cases in Shkodra

Shkodra seems to be at the peak of the seasonal flu season, as the number of those who have presented to health centers in the last month has reached two thousand in total, while on the other hand, 500 cases have been reported in the last week alone.

The head of epidemiology at the Local Health Care Unit in Shkodra, Dhurata Hysa, expressed her hope that in the coming days there will be a decline in the epidemiological curve, while appealing to citizens to go to health centers to receive the necessary assistance.

"The epidemiological situation in the Shkodra district appears quite dynamic, due to the fact that the number of infected cases continues to be present. I can say that the epidemiological curve is not increasing further, so we are at the peak of the virus season.

The epidemiological curve is currently stable, but let's hope that in the coming days we will see a decrease in cases. Citizens continue to turn to health centers to receive the appropriate service.

We also have cases of serious clinical forms that are being referred to the Shkodra regional hospital, while there are also hospitalizations. We are currently at the peak of the virus season, so the curve is stable and it is not that we are declining.

"We expect to see a decline in the epidemiological curve. In the last month there have been over 2,000 cases, while the last week has seen around 500 cases with the number of infected people, similar to previous years."

This year, the cases that are presented have a more serious diagnosis in many cases, which means that they come in a more aggravated health condition due to the flu.

"The number of cases is similar to last year, but this time the cases that present have a more serious diagnosis compared to previous years. This is because the flu usually lasts 5-7 days and this gives a very high temperature above 38.5 degrees and there are many cases that have serious complications such as bronchitis, bronchopneumonia and all come after an upper respiratory infection.

There are cases where citizens turn to their family doctor and also to regional hospitals. As for advice, I would say that citizens are well-informed regarding monitoring their health status due to the fact that viruses are not only annual, but also in every season and in winter they are more aggressive and in higher numbers.

They should be careful not to be part of various gatherings, be careful with hygiene, and nutrition is important. They need as much juice, soup, vegetables, fruit, and herbal teas as possible.

"So nutrition should be quite good in this winter season. A mask can also be used when we are affected by the flu in order to protect our families and in the first days to stay at home and receive the appropriate outpatient service. Ventilation of the indoor environment where we stay is also important." /CNA
