For 4 days, Edison Oruqi, a father of 3 children, resident of the "Kiras" neighborhood in Shkodra, has been missing. He was working on the Shala River when he lost contact with his family. His disappearance is mysterious because his co-worker and family say that Edison was last seen working in a guesthouse.
"On Friday evening, I went to citizen Marjan Molla's for dinner with Skender. There, my husband called me and told us that I was fine, I had come for dinner. After we talked, he said that he would pick me up later. That night, he didn't pick me up again.
The next day at 9:00 he called me and said Val, are you worried that I didn't call you last night? I said no, I know where you are. Okay, so he told me that I'm starting work and I'll call you later. At 11:00 he called me again and asked me what I was doing. I told him that I was at work and I had lunch. Okay, he said he'd call me after work again in the evening and he called me around 7:00 PM.
Then the police came to me and asked me when you last spoke. I told them that I haven't spoken to you since then and I have no information. They told me that they don't know where you are.
"As the father of three children, I am ready to go and find him, to search with or without the police. A person told me that he drowned in the water, but I myself do not know if it is true or not. I want justice. If the state does not find justice, I will find it myself. He is a father of three children. He was a helper. He is disabled and we are struggling to make ends meet."
Skënder Pepkolaj says that Edison was taken by the owner's brother to load construction materials and told him he would return him the next day. After they completed the work, he told him that he had left the worker on a small sandy island.
"The nephew has been missing since Saturday. On Monday, the police came here and told us that they had information that Edison was missing. We went to the police and left the correct information. The police told us that they would do their best. Today, Edison's father went to the police and they told him that yesterday they sent a car but today they didn't send anyone. It is suspected that he fell into the water. From this place, he was working to get to where he was at first, that other person left him in a sandbank and notified Skender that he had left Edison at the sandbank and Skender went but didn't find him there.
They searched but didn't find him, they called the police and the police went on Monday. That's it and the police don't know how to give any information. Edison was not a problematic person because he was a worker, a janitor and a second-group invalid. He went out to earn two lek for his family. We ask the police, the justice system and others to take an interest in finding at least the body. It's good that they have given up hope of finding him alive, but at least his body will be found."
It was Pepkolaj himself who filed a police report for the disappearance of Edison, who was his assistant in the construction work. Shkodra Police have conducted several checks on the Shale River but still without any results. /CNA
