Removal of tax-free oil for farmers/ Rama: It was being abused

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke at today's meeting with entrepreneurs in Berat about the removal of free fuel for farmers. Rama said that this decision was taken because, according to him, it was being abused and used for purposes not related to agriculture.

Among other things, he added that farmers must take care of food security, one of the areas described by Rama as the most challenging for integration into the European Union.

"Oil has been a challenge for agriculture, because we have tried to turn it around from several sides. We have had over 60 thousand who have received oil, while the productive power does not have this kind of proportion. In this sense, we have not removed support for anyone, but we have removed the possibility that oil can be abused and used for purposes that are not related to agriculture. Many people who work other people's lands have been forced to take the oil and give it to others. We have been forced to try several ways, and this now comes as a result of the knowledge of formalization, which will give you the opportunity to have more support from the state and benefit from European funding. One of the most difficult challenges of joining the EU is food security. Food security standards must be guaranteed. I believe that Albanians have the ability to adapt, but we must start working now on what the European Union wants. We must meet the standards as an EU country," said Rama. /CNA
