The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania has reacted today regarding the derogatory language used against CNA by the president of the National Chamber of Advocates, Maks Haxhia.
Through a statement, the Association expresses full solidarity and emphasizes that the duty of institutions, public or not, is to respond or not to respond, but to respect the norms of communication, as well as the work of journalists.
The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania adds that it is Haxhi's obligation, as the head of an institution like the National Chamber of Advocates, to apologize for his behavior.
We recall that CNA contacted Maks Haxhia a few days ago regarding a complaint received by our editorial office alleging bribery in the process of licensing lawyers by the Chamber of Advocates, during which Haxhia used offensive and derogatory language.
"The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania expresses concern about the derogatory language reported to have been used against the CNA journalist by the President of the National Chamber of Advocates, Mr. Maks Haxhia.
The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania has received a complaint from this editorial office and communicated with the journalist to obtain information. According to the journalist, due to a complaint received by the editorial office regarding the licensing of lawyers at the National Chamber of Advocates, she contacted Mr. Haxhia, requesting a reaction on behalf of the editorial office, to have both sides. The journalist expressed shock at Mr. Haxhia's response, which was an unworthy and insulting language and without any response to the complaint she had been asked about.
Respecting the journalist's right to anonymity, and recognizing her long experience in the media, the Association of Professional Journalists of Albania expresses solidarity with her colleague. The duty of a journalist is to ask questions and reflect all points of view in the news she reports. On the other hand, the duty of institutions, public or not, is to respond or not to respond, but to respect the norms of communication, as well as the work of journalists.
It is Mr. Haxhia's obligation and honor, as the head of an important institution like the National Chamber of Advocates, to apologize to the journalist for his behavior, as a representative of that institution.
"The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania encourages journalists facing similar situations not to be demotivated, but to continue their duty by seeking information, as required by the deontology of the profession," the statement said. /CNA
