Vengu: The 2026 budget is the highest the Ministry of Defense has ever had

Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, has issued a statement to the media from the Presidency of the Parliament. Vengu stated that the 2026 budget is the highest defense budget since Albania's membership in NATO.

Vengu stated that more than 13 billion lek have been made available for the human capital of defense. He further added that the draft budget aims to finance the production of ammunition, uniforms, armored vehicles, combat drones and anti-drone systems.  

"The highest defense budget since Albania's NATO membership. This budget is not only large in financial volume, but also clear in the directions it finances, mainly human capital, which is the starting point of every reform we undertake. More than 13 billion lek available in terms of human capital so that our uniformed personnel are at the NATO average, that is, the standards they deserve to have. The military industry was a part where we stopped exhaustively in the committee. The draft budget aims to finance the production of ammunition, uniforms, armored vehicles, combat drones and anti-drone systems ," said Vengu.

Asked by journalists about the statements of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, that Prime Minister Edi Rama has asked him to resign, Vengu said that these are untrue.

"I am not shocked by delusions of this nature, which I take as threats from Mr. Berisha. These things are not true at all ," the minister said. /CNA
