2026 Budget for the General Prosecutor's Office/Kaso: Support is needed,

DP MP Ivi Kaso during his speech at the Committee on Civic Initiatives where the 2026 draft budget and financial support for the General Prosecutor's Office are discussed.

Kaso emphasized that budgetary support and support channeled into capital investments for the General Prosecutor's Office is needed due to various problems that have been previously reported by the Prosecutor General.

"We have emphasized since the moment of reporting that the weight borne by the General Prosecutor's Office is great because it covers 95% of criminal offenses and the volume of work is extraordinary.  

If we were to see that the volume of processed files has increased by 15%, it is logical that the support figure would be in analogous values, taking into account the serious problems that have been reported, such as the inability of the existing building, the issue of archives that deepens year after year, and, as was reported, the increased security needs.

We are aware of the difficult conditions in which the Prosecution pursues criminal offenses. Most trials are held in judges' offices where the judge, the defendant and the prosecutor are in one chair. It is illogical and abnormal. We are supporters of a budgetary support channeled into capital investments that should focus not only on reconstruction but also on the addition of new buildings.

"All of these are sensitive issues and from which criminal prosecution suffers," Kaso said./ CNA
