"Sarkozy respected the sentence", Krasniqi: Unlike here, no one

Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi, in a reaction on social networks, commented on the case of the conviction of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and the implementation of the law in France. Krasniqi states that Sarkozy, although he considered the accusation against him to be political, went to prison and respected the court's decision.

He adds that in France, in court or at the prison gate, there were no daily rallies or speeches, and no one undertook a campaign of personal and family denigration against judges and prosecutors. Krasniqi states that it is different in Albania, where the leader of the country is the state and the law itself, and then other names and institutions come.

Full post:

French President Nicolas Sarkozy (2007-2012), a former minister and former leader of the main Gaullist political party, was sentenced to prison on charges of an alleged scheme to finance his 2007 presidential campaign with funds from Libya. According to DW, although the court did not rule that Sarkozy received or used the funds for his campaign, it convicted the former president of criminal conspiracy in connection with the scheme. The charge therefore related to his political activity, to the campaign, to his political party, to public responsibility, not to his personal and family accounts. He considered the charge political, but respected the decision, went to prison and these days secured his release by placing himself under judicial supervision.

This is France, a country with a functioning democracy and separation of powers. In court or at the prison gate, there were no daily rallies, speeches or protests by militant supporters from over 18.9 million voters in his favor, hundreds of MPs and party officials did not take up banners to take to the streets, and no one undertook a campaign of personal and family denigration against judges and prosecutors. He pursued the case through the courts, with a private law firm, and his political support force pursued a parallel political agenda, without getting involved in the process. He believes he is innocent and is still continuing his legal battle.

We are in Albania, a country politely called a "hybrid democracy", where the next leading individual is "the state/law" then come some other names and some institutions. The law?! We read and interpret it ourselves "better" than the courts and law enforcement agencies! /CNA
