AKU blocks 75 tons of corn from Serbia/ Haderi: We await full analyses, the farm

After blocking 25 tons of corn about a week ago, the AKU in Shkodra blocked another 75 tons of livestock corn from the same exporting entity last evening, bringing the total quantity currently blocked to 100 tons.

According to the director of the Shkodra AKU, Ramir Haderi, the corn has been blocked at the Hani i Hoti customs for the purpose of conducting laboratory tests to determine whether there is a high presence of aflatoxin B1, a toxic and carcinogenic substance that exceeds the permitted norms in Albania.

"We have been focused on the corn alert case. Several measures have been taken for this procedure. Currently, after blocking 25 tons, we have also blocked a farm in Trush. The blockade was made by the AKU and we are keeping them under monitoring. Currently, we have also blocked 75 tons of corn from Serbia and we are analyzing them. According to the order, every product coming from Serbia is being blocked until analysis. The analyses have been done based on the plan of measures. Hani i Hotit is being kept under observation," Haderi said.

Meanwhile, the AKU has also blocked a farm in the village of Trush, after the traceability system showed that it was supplied with livestock corn from a subject detained at customs. Haderi added that 6 warning measures have also been taken against agricultural pharmacies, due to irregularities found during the controls.

"The action continued with agricultural pharmacies, where 15 were inspected and 6 of them were warned mainly for changing labels and failing to meet hygiene and sanitary conditions," said Haderi.

The AKU is carefully monitoring the situation and is awaiting the results of the analyses for every livestock product coming from Serbia, so that Albanian farms are supplied only with safe products./CNA
