The murder of a member of the Kosovo police in the north provoked widespread reactions. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who is in New York, said that she has stopped all meetings and will leave for Kosovo.
"These attacks prove once again the destabilizing power of criminal gangs, organized by Serbia, which have been destabilizing Kosovo and the region for a long time, as has been proven with the attacks on KFOR members, journalists and citizens."
She said that the organized attacks against law enforcement are attacks against the sovereignty of Kosovo.
"In addition to the severe condemnation of this open aggression of Serbia towards Kosovo, I expect our allies to support Kosovo in its effort to establish law and order and preserve sovereignty in every part of the Republic of Kosovo", says the reaction of President Osmani.
The American ambassador in Pristina, Jeff Hovenier, in his reaction through a communique, said that the United States strongly condemns the orchestrated, violent attacks against the Kosovo police.
"We are observing the situation closely and condemn these violent acts against the legitimate authorities of the Republic of Kosovo. The perpetrators must and will be held accountable and brought to justice. They must stop their attacks immediately," said Ambassador Hovenier's statement.
The American ambassador said that the Kosovo police have full and legitimate responsibility for the implementation of the rule of law according to the constitution and laws of Kosovo.
"We recognize and respect its role as the first responder in emergency and crisis situations. We appreciate the ongoing coordination between the Kosovo Police, the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo and KFOR ," he wrote.
The head of foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, condemned as he said: "with the harshest possible words the ugly attack by an armed gang against the Kosovo police in Banjska in the north of Kosovo".
In a statement he said that, "all the facts about the attack must be verified. The perpetrators responsible must face justice. More innocent lives are at risk from the ongoing hostilities in the surroundings of Banjska Monastery. These attacks must be stopped immediately."
Mr. Borrell said that EULEX, as the second security responder, is on the ground and in close contact with the authorities and KFOR.
"The EU and its member states constantly call on all actors to work to improve the situation in the north of Kosovo ," the communiqué states.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, strongly condemned, as he said, the terrorist attack by the criminal structures directed by Serbia.
"This is a direct attack on the constitutional order, on our actions for law and order and violation of the sovereignty and security of our country", said Mr. Konjufca, asking the European Union and the United States to condemn Serbia for this open aggression before Kosovo.
The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, expressed his shock at the news of the killing of the policeman, calling it a direct attack on the state of Kosovo.
"Today, in this moment of pain, we stand united in support of our policemen, who, despite the daily challenges of attacks by criminal gangs controlled by Belgrade, are protecting state sovereignty in the northern part of our state," he wrote . call for Kosovo's international partners to clearly condemn the attack and urgently ask Serbia to stop interfering in Kosovo's territory and further provoking the situation.
The President of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that the terrorist attack on the Kosovo police and the killing of a police officer on duty are attacks on the Republic of Kosovo and the Constitutional order itself.
"The attacks of criminal and terrorist gangs with an address from Belgrade cannot repel Kosovo from the right to establish order, legality and its sovereignty. The institutions of justice bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice as soon as possible" , he wrote, underlining that in these difficult moments, Kosovo needs friends and allies.
The chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said that this terrorist attack is a serious blow to peace and stability not only in Kosovo but also in the region.
"Belgrade must urgently give up its destabilizing and warmongering actions with unpredictable consequences, not only for Kosovo but also for Serbia. A lot has been invested in peace and no one will be allowed to jeopardize it ," he wrote.
The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, strongly condemned the murder, stressing that "this organized criminal act is a serious violation of the order and security of the Republic of Kosovo". In a post on social networks, President Begaj called on the international community, "to react decisively to the orderers and implementers of this extremely serious act for the stability of Kosovo and peace in the Western Balkans region".
Expressing his condolences to the family of the murdered policeman, President Begaj said that "in these moments calmness, prudence and close cooperation with KFOR and allies are needed more than ever. Albania is always in support of Kosovo", he wrote.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that "the tragedy of the loss of life of the Kosovo Police officer is the biggest alarm bell to date for the ongoing risk of the prolonged crisis escalating into an armed conflict. The criminals who took the life of an innocent man, who served under the state uniform of the law enforcement forces of the Republic of Kosovo, must be brought to justice."
In a post on social networks, Prime Minister Rama wrote that "the Euro-Atlantic community must gather all its imposing force and irreversibly seat Kosovo and Serbia at the table of the Normalization Dialogue. Convening an extraordinary peace conference, under the supervision and guarantee of the European Union and the United States, and simultaneously taking all extraordinary measures with KFOR, to prevent further escalation of the situation, are a strategic necessity not only for order and security in Kosovo today, but also for the peace and future of the region tomorrow, before the prolonged crisis in the North of Kosovo gets out of control and turns into a destabilizing fire for the entire region".
Condemning the armed attack against the police and the state of Kosovo, Albanian Foreign Minister Igli Hasani said that "today's criminal act is a threat to the security and stability of our region and the perpetrators must face justice as soon as possible. Albania is by Kosovo's side in these difficult moments that require composure, in close cooperation with allies and partners".
