The murder of a member of the Kosovo police in the north provoked widespread reactions. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who is in New York, said that she has stopped all meetings and will leave for Kosovo.

"These attacks prove once again the destabilizing power of criminal gangs, organized by Serbia, which have been destabilizing Kosovo and the region for a long time, as has been proven with the attacks on KFOR members, journalists and citizens."

The American ambassador in Pristina, Jeff Hovenier, in his reaction through a communique, said that the United States strongly condemns the orchestrated, violent attacks against the Kosovo police.

"We are observing the situation closely and condemn these violent acts against the legitimate authorities of the Republic of Kosovo. The perpetrators must and will be held accountable and brought to justice. They must stop their attacks immediately," said Ambassador Hovenier's statement.

The American ambassador said that the Kosovo police have full and legitimate responsibility for the implementation of the rule of law according to the constitution and laws of Kosovo.

"We recognize and respect its role as the first responder in emergency and crisis situations. We appreciate the ongoing coordination between the Kosovo Police, the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo and KFOR ," he wrote.

The head of foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, condemned as he said: "with the harshest possible words the ugly attack by an armed gang against the Kosovo police in Banjska in the north of Kosovo".

In a statement he said that, "all the facts about the attack must be verified. The perpetrators responsible must face justice. More innocent lives are at risk from the ongoing hostilities in the surroundings of Banjska Monastery. These attacks must be stopped immediately."

Mr. Borrell said that EULEX, as the second security responder, is on the ground and in close contact with the authorities and KFOR.

"The EU and its member states constantly call on all actors to work to improve the situation in the north of Kosovo ," the communiqué states.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, strongly condemned, as he said, the terrorist attack by the criminal structures directed by Serbia.
