Diaspora Vote/Strazimir: The government was not ready because it could not

Member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Genc Strazimiri, invited to Syri TV, spoke about his party's coalition with 25 other parties.

Strazimir said that it is the largest coalition of all Albanians against the government, from which everyone is suffering. Strazimir also touched on the process of the primaries, which he called a sport within the party.

The member of the DP leadership said that the result that emerged from the primaries was not what the Socialist Party wanted.

Strazimir also thanked the immigrants who registered to vote in the May 11 elections and said that the majority did not want to allow them to vote because it cannot control them.

" I believe that there was a strategy published some time ago by the DP, which has been repeated continuously by Mr. Berisha, that the largest coalition of all Albanians against this government will be formed, because everyone is suffering from this government.

I think this is something we have said and we have kept. Before every campaign, the DP has always made efforts to create a broader coalition.

As for the primaries, they are a process that is not new in the DP. During the first 249 days of the re-establishment, we have held primaries 5 times. Primaries within the DP have become a sport, where the last ones were awaited with great interest by the Democrats, candidates and citizens. It was an internal participation with more candidacies than usual. The lists were long as a result of the interest of the Democrats and DP supporters to give their contribution to the lists of deputies and to serve the May 11 elections.

I think the primaries were a necessary process, which ended successfully and was not a novelty, because it was the 6-7th time that these primaries have been held. The important thing was that the competition was real and open.

As for the expectation, it was not in line with what the government expected. It is a public fact that the Central Election Commission expected a small influx of voters from the diaspora, no more than 15-17 thousand registrations, and for this they left a budget for 30 thousand people, but then they were forced to review and increase it. They exceeded their forecast and exceeded it tenfold, exceeding the expectations they had for the number of voters who were expected to be dominant in these elections.

Extraordinary gratitude to the diaspora, which, with great effort and commitment, managed to register, applying 4-5 times and not giving up until they managed to register the number that was made public.

"I think this has been a necessary process, perhaps it should have been examined more carefully and from a technical point of view, and not only from an administrative aspect. It was an uncompromising battle of the opposition that made it possible for immigrants to vote. This government was not ready for them, because it could not control it ," said Strazimiri./ CNA
