Veliaj may 'capture' the dome of justice, but he is not freed from

Democratic MP Belind Këlliçi has reacted to the Constitutional Court's decision to return the case of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, to the High Court.

Këlliçi expressed through a post on social networks that the country's judiciary is paving the way for Erjon Veliaj's release. It all started with the initiative of Sokol Sadushi, who a few weeks ago reviewed the judicial practice on security measures, where he decided that prison should be the last measure to be taken in cases like Veliaj's.

According to Këlliç, now, it is the Constitutional Court that serves, the same one that returned him to office even though the mayor has 13 charges including; corruption, concealment of assets, and money laundering.
Today, the Constitutional Court has ordered the High Court to review the measure of imprisonment, thus giving Sadushi the opportunity to now act according to the party motive and personal friendship with Veliaj.

"This decision is not a good development for the country. It is a green light for corruption and abuse of office. Corruption and abuse of office are the major wounds that Albania has today, highlighted not only by partners and Brussels, but especially by the damage that this has brought to the economy and public interest. Erion Veliaj is the most corrupt mayor in the history of Tirana as a capital and his relief, the making of the dome of justice available is a sign of the state's capture, of the influence of justice. It is another blow given to SPAK and the work that this special structure has done in the Veliaj case", emphasizes Këlliçi, among other things.

Këlliçi argues that the decision comes at a time when corruption is being protected by Edi Rama with a vote in the Assembly, where an immunity is being installed in the country for the Prime Minister's government officials and associates, while Albania goes to the intergovernmental table with the EU in Brussels tomorrow, once again kicking a repeatedly emphasized demand for integration, such as the fight against corruption and equality before the law.

Finally, the MP adds that Veliaj may seize the throne of justice, but he will never be able to free himself from oppression and abuse of office, at the expense of the trust and interests of the citizens of Tirana.
