"You have 48 hours to return the sidewalks to citizens and tourists"
For two days, after successive denunciations from citizens, Prime Minister Edi Rama has taken action to act with an iron fist on all those businesses that have occupied public spaces.
The Prime Minister gave an ultimatum, warning them that they only have 48 hours to vacate the spaces to citizens and tourists, otherwise they would face fines and criminal prosecution.
Rama, after citizens' complaints, said that sidewalks, public properties, and walkways for tourists and citizens have been hijacked. A fair statement by the Prime Minister.
In fact, Rama's statement comes at a time when Erion Veliaj, the arrested mayor of Tirana, is facing 13 charges and the High Court will issue a decision on him tomorrow.
13 charges listed, 9 of which for corruption, 1 for laundering the proceeds of crime, 1 for abuse of office, 1 for bringing prohibited items into prison and 1 for concealment and failure to declare assets.
With the Prime Minister's statements and what has been ascertained by ministers who have gone out into the field and by MPs, and with the actions being taken by the Municipal Police, it is being clearly shown that Erion Veliaj and his subordinates have ABANDONED THEIR DUTY.
The issue of occupying public spaces is a fact of corruption and the next scandal in the Municipality of Tirana. Because citizens pay taxes and the municipality must control its territory.
And, those streets, sidewalks, alleys or public squares were not occupied today or yesterday since Erion Veliaj went to prison, but for years and years they have been occupied by businesses, some of which, in order to be called legal, have paid taxes to the municipality.
The permits to pay these taxes and occupy these public spaces were granted by Erion Veliaj and his subordinates.
Someone paid the tax for 5 meters and received 50 meters, because the difference in taxes was pocketed by that thief from the Municipal Police or the thief from the Inspectorate and those thief inspectors from the municipality.
This is a corruption issue that Edi Rama has not only proven and proven with his recent actions to Erion Veliaj, but has also prepared him for a new indictment by SPAK.
Because, it is a FACT that those public properties have been occupied.
10 meters of space are registered, 100 meters are used, where does the rest of the money go? Who is it given to illegally? How is it divided?
We know how these work, they go to both the Municipality's IMT and the Municipal Police and to the thief directors of Veliaj, some of whom are in prison and some others who replaced them, so the first thieves were replaced with the second thieves.
All these FACTS published for days and issues declared by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself, regarding the occupation of public spaces, whether with or without permission, in fact constitute a new accusation against Erion Veliaj, which is served to SPAK just one day before the High Court's decision on the arrested mayor of Tirana, with 13 charges./CNA
