Ultimatum for public spaces/ Journalist: The government benefits financially

Journalist Fatjona Mejdini, through a post on social networks, reacted to the ultimatum given today by Prime Minister Rama to vacate public spaces.

Mejdini writes that in the last 10 years, sidewalks have been occupied by owners of all kinds and have never offered a safe way for pedestrians to cross.

The journalist further writes that this is a well-planned strategy that also benefits those in power.

Mejdini states that this situation cannot be changed with seasonal orders and ultimatums or by drawing attention to the citizen.

" In these last 10 years, when Tirana has undoubtedly been transformed, the citizen has not been placed at the center of developments. He has been an invisible, ignored and excluded element."

Sidewalks have been taken over by businesses, builders, and property owners of all kinds, without ever providing a safe path to cross. In many areas of the city, the right to have a sidewalk has simply been denied.

Debris and debris are left in front of buildings, on corners, or along streets, and are cleared only to make way for new construction.

High-rise buildings have been built without ramps for women with children or for people with special needs.

Electric cables are left hanging over their heads, while water tanks weigh down their terraces.

Public and green spaces between buildings have disappeared one after another, handing them over to private individuals to build 'cafes'.

This type of development is not accidental, but a well-planned strategy, in which those in power benefit financially through disrespect for citizens.

Therefore, this situation cannot be changed with forced seasonal orders and ultimatums, by drawing attention to the MP who suddenly forgets the citizen, or by staging the next episode of the series "the arrogant and corrupt director" , writes Mejdini./ CNA
