Poll/Citizens: The Supreme Court should not release Veliaj

On July 8, a hearing will be held at the High Court for the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

Mayor Veliaj, caught in several cases of corruption, on charges of laundering the proceeds of crime, introducing prohibited items into detention cells, refusing to declare, failing to declare, concealing or falsely declaring assets, private interests of elected officials and public servants or any other person who has a legal obligation to declare, and finally, for abuse of office, has requested a change in the security measure. 

A few days before the Supreme Court's decision on Veliaj, CNA conducted a survey asking citizens: "Should the Supreme Court release Erion Veliaj?"

Hundreds of citizens have given their opinions in this survey, with the majority of them stating that the Supreme Court should not release the arrested mayor Erion Veliaj.

60% of them strongly believe that Veliaj should not be released from prison.

33% of them say yes and 7% give the answer "I don't know".

During this time, the media that serve as Veliaj's tool have launched their campaign, a strategy also warned by CNA, to spread propaganda for Veliaj, who is facing a series of charges for several serious criminal offenses.

CNA has shown this week how foreign media are also being used for propaganda to say that Veliaj is being held in prison without charge.

But this strategy has failed after the journalist and editor-in-chief of Eu Reporter, the media outlet that published the article and the letter from Mother Shqiponjës, which mentions "Kafka", a term used massively by Veliaj as we reported the day before during his attacks and threats against prosecutors and the judiciary, admitted that the article is not professional and is not based on facts but was taken from a law firm.
