EC progress report on Albania/ Tabaku: There was nothing extraordinary

Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku commented this evening on the European Commission's report on Albania's progress. Invited to "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews, the MP said that she sees nothing extraordinary in the report.

She said that the progress report shows the panorama of a country where elections are not won with ideas, where parliament is no longer the soul of democracy and a public administration that, according to her, is not based on democracy. Tabaku said that integration is not the closing of group chapters but a real change in the lives of citizens.

"I don't see anything extraordinary. It doesn't seem to me that it is the report of a country that has opened almost 6 group chapters. If you read the progress report, you see the panorama of a country where elections are not won with ideas but those who have power win them. It shows that parliament is no longer the soul of democracy, but has lost its control function, there are no investigative committees. You see a public administration that is not based on meritocracy. The progress report is viewed and analyzed together with other reports that have been released. It doesn't matter how many group chapters it opens, but how many it closes and how it closes them. Integration is the real change in the lives of citizens.
