"The Assembly, the heart of democracy"/ German Ambassador Bergner meets Pelesh

German Ambassador Karl Bergner met today at the premises of the Albanian Parliament, as part of a presentation visit, with the Speaker of the Parliament Niko Peleshi.

As reported in a statement from the German Embassy in Tirana, Bergner congratulated Pelesh on his appointment and emphasized the central importance of the Assembly as the heart of democracy, especially in relation to EU membership.

The Ambassador emphasizes that in addition to its great responsibility as a legislator, the Assembly must also provide space for dialogue and oversight over the government, among other things through means such as investigative committees.

Bergner stated that the willingness of all political forces for constructive cooperation and respect for agreed rules is as necessary as respecting minority rights. /CNA
