The progress report drafted by the European Commission for Albania places emphasis on the aspect of European integration.

The report states that the EU integration process should be more inclusive, cross-party and supported by effective consultation mechanisms.

“Albania's bodies responsible for the EU integration process are in place. They successfully coordinated national positions, leading to the opening of negotiations for five out of six groups during the reporting period.

EU integration expertise, planning and inter-institutional mechanisms will need to be further strengthened to support Albania’s ambition to accelerate the reforms required by the EU accession process. The EU integration process needs to be more inclusive, cross-party and supported by effective consultation mechanisms. Communication efforts on EU integration need to be intensified.

"Civil society organizations (CSOs) operate in a partially enabling environment. They face challenges related to registration requirements and limited public funding, along with a rise in negative narratives and online smear campaigns," the report said. /CNA
