"The opposition is not being allowed to exercise its constitutional rights

Democratic Party MP Ivi Kaso said today that the opposition is being prevented by the majority from exercising its constitutional rights. Invited to Syri TV, Kaso said that the opposition is being denied the establishment of investigative committees, debate motions, and interpellations with ministers and the prime minister.

He further added that normal interaction in a democracy, where the opposition should have its say, is also being denied. The MP emphasized that this shows that we are far from what is required for European integration.

"A constitutional right and one of the mechanisms of parliamentary control, which is the establishment of investigative committees, has been denied in all, let's say, joint exercises of parliamentary sessions. The mechanism of motions with debate has been denied, the mechanism of interpellations has been denied, where it reaches absurd conditions even for parliament, where ministers are summoned for interpellations and do not deign to come. The prime minister is summoned, he does not come. The deputy prime minister is summoned, he does not come.

Beyond what was on the face of the whole world, that ugly scene and the opposition's provocation that was made in the first truly solemn session of this legislature, in which the government program should have been unveiled, the government program should have been voted on and trusted, as ministers should have been recognized, the opposition was asking questions, so one of the most important sessions of this legislature, which was closed without debate, simply because the prime minister decided to provoke the opposition by bringing out his avatar there, Diella, and trying to make room for him at the parliamentary dialogue table.

So there are many cases, it is useless to dwell on all of them, when the opposition has been denied a voice, has been denied that normal interaction in a democracy, where of course the opposition will have its say, will try to exercise its control with the constitutional mechanisms it has. And today we are very far, unfortunately, unfortunately for the integration of Albania, very far from what it requires, what has been rightly underlined and which is the condition of conditions for Albania's progress on the path of integration, which is that comprehensive political dialogue, so the return of political life in general and institutionally of course, to a normality as it should be in a democracy", Kaso expressed. /CNA
