Pensions/ Rama: A tough bone to swallow, we cannot act without a long-term plan
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that pensions are the hardest bone for a government to swallow. At the international conference on pension system reform in Albania, Rama said that they cannot act without a long-term plan and vision, as if they were to act at this point it would be fatal and would have the same consequences and damage as in the past.

"Pensions are the hardest bone to swallow for a government where demographic conditions are not in favor of the normal progress of this system. It has been a long road from which we have learned quite a bit. Today we are a different country, we have a total production of 2.5 more than 10 years ago, today it is more than 25 billion euros. It exports 4 times more than 10 years ago.

There is no doubt that by no longer being the small and weak ones waiting for help, we are challenged to respond to people's expectations.

We had a debt of 1.2 billion euros in the energy distribution company alone.

Debts to companies alone exceeded 400 million euros and our response was no, we will put things in order and guarantee that everyone pays their energy debt.

"Today we are in different conditions and we certainly feel and understand it and at the same time we take responsibility regarding the request of pensioners to participate in sharing the fruits of reforms and economic growth. We are aware that it would be fatal if at this point we were to act without having a long-term vision and a sustainable long-term plan, as it would cause the same damage," said Rama./ CNA
