36% of immigrant voting applications rejected, with Italian voters leading the

For the first time, immigrants will also vote in the parliamentary elections to be held on May 11, 2025. Their registration began on January 11 of this year and ends on March 4.

The registration of voters from abroad is being carried out through the Electronic Registration Platform (ERP) administered by the Central Election Commission.

According to data published by the Central Election Commission (CEC) as of February 4, 2025, a total of 141,435 requests for election registration have been completed. Of the total number of completed requests, 69% have been approved. The number of approved requests reaches 87,596.

Approved requests are led by immigrants from Italy with 33% of the total approved requests. Followed by immigrants living in the state of Greece with 25% of the approved requests, Germany 13%, the USA 10%, England 8%, etc.

While about 36% of requests were rejected, according to the CEC, this also includes cases where a voter's application was rejected more than once.

46% of rejected applications are from immigrant voters living in Italy. 27% of them are in Greece as rejected applications, around 12% in Germany, the US is 3.5% and 3.2% in England.

Total requests by country, age group and region

From the total number of registered requests (including those rejected) according to CEC data, it results that the largest number of immigrants seeking to participate in the elections is concentrated in Italy. In this country, 53,419 requests or 38% of the total have been registered. Followed by Greece with 27% of them, Germany (12%), USA (7%), England (6%), etc.

28% of total requests are dominated by voters in the age group 26 to 35 years old. The age group 36 to 45 years old makes up 27% of them, the age group 46 to 55% accounts for 19% of total requests. Over 56 years old accounts for 16% and the age group 18 to 25 years old accounts for 10%.

The distribution of total registration requests is in the Tirana region 19%, followed by the Fier region 14%, Korça 11%, Durrës 8%, Elbasan 8%, Vlora 6%, Berat 6%, Shkodra 4%, etc./ Monitor Magazine
