The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, declared that the decision of the Constitutional Court to overturn the 15% tax for free professions is a victory for the citizens.

In a statement to the media from the Assembly, Tabaku stated that there was no legal basis to tax that category.

"We won a battle today because the Supreme Court today came out with a decision that the tax on the self-employed is unconstitutional, which discriminated against the self-employed. For this reason, there is no legal basis for this tax to be treated differently from the free professions. This is a battle won by the PD parliamentary group, by independent professionals, but rather it is a battle won for the Albanian citizens", said Tabaku.

On Thursday, the Constitutional Court partially overturned the law on the taxation of free professions.

The decision was taken by the vote of the majority of the members of the Constitutional Court and was made public by the president Holta Zaçaj.

The latter said that the 15% rate does not pass the proportionality test. Those who have an income of up to 14 million ALL will not pay tax, while those who receive more than 14 million ALL will be taxed 23%./ CNA
