This Wednesday, Prime Minister Edi Rama attacked the SPAK and defended the journalists, as he spoke about the disclosure of investigative secrets.

At the 6th National Conference on the Right to Information, Rama said that journalists are not to blame for revealing investigative secrets.

He emphasized that investigative secrets are available to the prosecutors and the investigation should be initiated by the persons who reveal them, not by the journalists who publish them.

"The right to information and providing information are not investigative secrets, investigative secrecy is something else. Here, too, I stand in solidarity regarding a case of a journalist, who was accused and mistreated for leaking investigative secrets. It also happened at a certain moment, if I'm not mistaken at a certain moment of the pandemic, where the prosecution went after some journalists. For me, journalists do not disclose investigative secrets because journalists do not have investigative secrets. Investigative secrets are at the disposal of the prosecutors. When the secret falls into the hands of the journalist, it is no longer his obligation to keep the secret. And the investigation does not go to him, but to those who gave it to him.

This is elementary because since the canon is written in black and white, the messenger is not at fault. Who produced the news or who gave him the news to take it somewhere else is the source to go to in case the news is a lie, or in case the news should not have come out. I say this to underline that the information on everything that public institutions do and on everything that exists on paper, with a signature, with a seal and that is not included in a narrow space, that the law does not define as a space for the public, where it enters and investigative secrecy is public property that the state has no right to deny to citizens", underlined the head of the government./ CNA
