Former DP candidate: The image of the DP must be changed, Berisha should reflect

Former DP candidate for MP, Ilijana Kuçana, criticized the opposition front today, emphasizing that more morale and political coherence are needed.

Invited to A2 CNN, Kuçana stated that in the situation in which the Democratic Party finds itself, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, should reflect and make changes, which would also have an effect on the party's image.

"From the contacts I had and from what I saw along the way, I noticed that many figures who joined the Front for the Salvation of Albania in 2022 were not present at that table and I regret this. I feel regret, because they are people with contributions to civil society. They are people who have fought battles and public causes. I don't know if they were not invited or if they refused to be part of this table. Then I believe that the Democratic Party should have found the right person to make the invitations to civil society. It was not the right person who was involved in the organization. So, not Mr. Berisha, but the one who was involved in the organization. There was a lapse in work, in the person who sent the invitations.

Civil society functions differently. They are free people. Civil society has a different way and mechanism of functioning. It is very important that, when you invite them to a civil society table, they want to see their peers, people with whom they have fought together, have been side by side. Of course, they also want to see morality, they want to see coherence. Since the Front for the Salvation of Albania, in a way, was abandoned by the Democratic Party, I think that the Front has also abandoned that table today. This, I believe, is the reason why a large part of them have not been part of that table.

For me, it is sad when I do not see those intellectuals who really represent the intellectual figure, the intellectual face, the intellectual thought. I would very much like them to be there and it hurts me when I do not see at the table some of the people who are thinkers, people who are, I am saying it openly, philosophers in their approach and thought. The problem here is that the people that Mr. Berisha selects to organize this table, and not only that, but also the front row of the Democratic Party, must be reviewed. The image of the Democratic Party must be changed, because for some figures who are today in the Party, people do not approach.

 I strongly hope that by March, when we have elections in the Democratic Party, Mr. Berisha will reflect and make changes. If he does not, I will also think about my political commitment, because I cannot stay with some people for whom the whole of Albania says loudly that they can no longer be there. The opposition must be represented by figures who inspire hope, citizens, who have done something in their lives. There are figures who have not known how to do anything other than politics and, if I take them out of politics, they will be left without bread. This is not the right model", - said Kuçana. /CNA
