Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha today accused the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama of not declaring a state of natural disaster solely because through this act, the law would force him to compensate citizens.

In a statement to journalists, Berisha focused on the flooding situation in the country after several days of intense rainfall, emphasizing that the situation is dramatic and extremely threatening for citizens.

"Flooding from the rains has taken on dramatic new dimensions, dramatic new proportions across the country."

The narco-government is in complete anesthesia, it is beyond any kind of imagination, beyond any kind of standard, that in conditions when thousands and thousands of homes, tens of thousands of citizens have their homes flooded, their businesses flooded, their lives are threatened, the government, the narco-government not only does not declare a state of natural disaster, which forces the so-called state to mobilize all resources to help, to save, to get the residents of threatened, flooded areas out of danger, but yesterday released a cynical mockery, in which it claims that the opposition is accusing it of the floods in Greece and Italy, a sick fantasy of a deranged fantasist, the man who is now experiencing nights of terror every night because of his crimes that have become evident.

But I will stop once again on the flooded areas.

Durrës has been flooded, without a doubt the heavy rainfall is the underlying cause, but what favored it in an unprecedented way is the catastrophic state of the sewers and aqueducts, that of Porto Romano and that of the area above Bisht i Palës, which protects the entire lowland.

So, these two dams, the first one has some gates that do not work, while the Hamallaj dam has burnt out pumps. In addition, the sewers are blocked by other constructions or have not been cleaned. So, in this situation, everything favors the water to flood the citizens, their homes, their businesses.

The situation in the Novosela area is dramatic and extremely threatening, and the Municipality of Vlora has requested evacuation.

I urge residents to evacuate as soon as possible because the Vjosa River is a river with a risk incomparable to any other river in the country in terms of the suddenness of its flows.

Other rivers have overflowed and flooded areas, such as the Drojë River, which is actually a stream in reality, but during major storms it becomes a raging river and has burst its embankments and flooded other areas.

The government and representatives of the narco-government are nowhere to be found, except for the Minister of Justice who went to prison and wore prison overalls to prove that his government is a completely suffocated government.

Therefore, and in light of this situation, I condemn with the greatest force this inhumane indifference, the failure to declare a state of natural disaster, a state that has exceeded, in these areas, all the criteria for being declared.

But this non-declaration comes because they do not want to compensate citizens for their losses. Because declaring a state of disaster forces the government to compensate for all the damage caused by the disaster. This is the fact that the narco-government and Edi Rama are contemplating”, declared Berisha./ CNA
