Albania's integration into the EU/President of the Council of Europe:

The President of the Council of Europe, Antonio Costa, in a joint conference with Prime Minister Rama, praised Albania's determination to integrate into the EU.

Costa stated that the entire issue of integration boils down to the implementation of reforms and the history that Albania will make.

Fundamental, said Costa, are the continued commitment and preservation of an independent judiciary. The President of the Council of Europe encouraged Albania to continue the fight against corruption.

 

 

"I appreciate and commend Albania's determination to become a member of the EU. We have seen Albania's progress and it has met the milestones for the "Foundations" chapter group. Everything will focus on the issue of implementation and the history that Albania will make. A continued commitment and the preservation of an independent judiciary are fundamental for EU integration. I encourage you to continue the fight against corruption. You are integrating into the EU railways or Roaming scheme. The EU has brought long-term peace and stability. Enlargement is a geostrategic necessity for Europe. I look forward to meeting again very soon at the EU-Western Balkans summit, in Tivat. The summit will help to move further on this path towards the EU ," said Costa.
