Social Fund with 14 services/ EU Ambassador Gonzato: More effective

The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, was present this Wednesday at the presentation of 14 services of the "Social Fund 2026 - Guarantee for the Sustainability of Services for the Welfare of Citizens" program.

In his speech, Gonzato emphasized the importance of social protection in all aspects, as one of the essential elements of the founding treaty of the European Union.

According to the ambassador, the country must work to have more effective social protection systems and put citizens at the center.

"There is a thing in Albanian protocol, that the most important person speaks last. So I apologize to you, Mr. Prime Minister, for listening to all of us. If I were to summarize it in a single sentence, I would say that social welfare is the very strength of a nation and this is an issue that has been at the core of the EU since the beginning. Therefore, in the EU treaty, in one of the main articles it is stated that the EU takes into account social protection programs and public health. We have promoted these services. Leadership at the local level is very important to have effective and comprehensive social protection. The European Social Fund is as old as the EU itself. We work to have effective systems and to put citizens at the center, while also supporting sustainable financing. EU membership is not just about economic criteria, but it means creating a society in which no one is left behind," Gonzato said./ CNA
