The Hague trial of former KLA leaders/Vengu: An instrument to subvert the

Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, has reacted to the trial taking place in The Hague against former KLA leaders.

Through a post on social media, Vengu writes that the 5-year detention and the nature of the charges have become an instrument to subvert the distinction between aggressor and victim.

The minister states that this institutionalized injustice reopens historical gaps and undermines people's trust in peace institutions.

Vengu states that the stability of the region is not built on equating liberators with genocidaires.

Minister Vengu's reaction

The revolt against the demand for maximum sentences for former KLA leaders – Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi – stems from the demand for justice to be fair and historically accountable.

Detention for over five years and the nature of the charges have become an instrument to subvert the distinction between aggressor and victim, while the documented crimes of the Serbian repressive apparatus against Kosovo Albanians remain unpunished.

It is evident that the attempt to equate our liberators with the genocidal perpetrators of Srebrenica is based on fabricated accusations with Russian influence on the Council of Europe.

This institutionalized injustice reopens historical wounds and undermines people's trust in peace institutions. In this way, international courts are delegitimizing international law and the principle of self-determination of peoples.

The future of Kosovo, Serbia, and the stability of the region are built only on credible, impartial, and historically responsible justice – not on equating liberators with genocidaires.
