Farmers of Devolli, in survival conditions/ PD: Products are sold below cost

The heads of the Department of Agriculture Gjok Vuksani, Eduard Sharka and the Deputy of Korça Bledion Nallbati have written to the farmers of Devolli.

They expressed concern that they are in miserable conditions, as their products cannot be sold at the cost they have worked for. They emphasized that they are not subsidized by the Albanian state.

Deputy Nallbati emphasized that compared to the Albanian state of Macedonia or Kosovo, although they have very reduced budgets, the farmer in the region competes with the Albanian farmer in the sale of production.

"Kosovo has a budget of 3.3 billion euros, Macedonia has over 5 billion euros, while we have a budget of 7 billion euros. Meanwhile, we only subsidize agriculture with 40 million euros. Macedonia subsidizes with 140 million Euros and Kosovo as well. Beyond that, they also steal the funds of the European Union and have left Albania today, the Albanian farmer in the conditions of lack of support even from EU money. The 140 million euros that Albania was supposed to receive this year as a grant for farmers were suspended due to the theft, for which an investigation is being carried out," said Nallbati.

The head of the Department of Agriculture, Gjok Vuksani, pointed out that the Democratic Party has drawn up its program.

"A program has been built in cooperation with you on the problems and concerns of farmers. Even in Lushnje the situation was very bad and in Lezhë. As in Devoll, it is all over Albania. It is not only Devolli that is undervalued and underfunded, but it is the whole of Albania. First of all, Albanian agriculture is discriminated against. The Albanian government finances five times less than Kosovo, where the Albanian government gives 30 million euros, Kosovo gives 120 million euros. There is a wrong policy, starting with oil, the VAT of agricultural products in sale and purchase, 10% tax on agricultural inputs, the scandalous quality of the products' handling", said Vuksani.

On the other hand, Eduard Sharka emphasized that the subsidy should be increased and equal to the average of the region of Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia.

"The subsidy should be made per production unit, not per land area, because we have many problems with the land. Most are in emigration and the land is worked by the cousin without regular contracts in good faith, and when you hand over a bunch of onions, you will pay 100 lek for this product based on the invoice you hand over to the bank. The money that the government has allocated for the farmer should come through the production unit", he declared.

The farmers said that they are in survival conditions. They described the management being done by the government as a fraud against them. They demand that with the arrival of the Democratic Party in power, their demands, which have been trampled on by the socialists for years, will be fulfilled./ CNA
