On Monday, the Parliament will announce the vacancy for the Ombudsman, an institution still headed by Erinda Ballanca despite her mandate ending three years ago in 2022.

Ballanca assumed the office of Ombudsman on May 22, 2017 with a 5-year mandate.

For three years, Ballanca has been leading the institution beyond his mandate.

In the previous legislature, there were attempts to elect a new Ombudsman, which failed due to the conditions that 84 votes were needed for his election and that the candidate had to be trusted by the opposition.

After three years when we should have had a new leader for the People's Advocate on time, on Monday at 17:00 the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration will discuss precisely the announcement of this vacancy, inviting all interested parties to apply to Parliament for the position./ CNA
