Progress of preparations for the May 11 elections / CEC provides new details

The Central Election Commission has shared new details this afternoon about the progress of preparations for the May 11 elections. The details were revealed during a conversation with media representatives by state commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi.

Regarding the counting and evaluation of votes from abroad:

The process will be carried out by a commission of 4 members and a secretary, appointed by the SEC:

• 2 members will be nominated by the largest party in the parliamentary majority.

• 2 members will be nominated by the largest party in the parliamentary minority.

• The Secretary, a lawyer by profession, will be appointed through an open application process.

Counting groups will consist of 2 members:

• 1 member from the largest party in the parliamentary majority.

• 1 member from the largest party of the parliamentary minority.

Regarding changes in the registration deadlines for electoral entities:

• 75 days before the elections – Deadline for submitting requests from political parties for registration as electoral entities.

• 70 days before the elections – Deadline for registration of electoral coalitions.

• 60 days before the elections – Deadline for submission of multi-name candidate lists.

Regarding other changes to the Electoral Code:

• Rules for broadcasting political advertisements for candidates on multi-name lists subject to preferential voting.

• New provisions on financial expenses of electoral entities and candidates.

The main deadlines of the electoral process are:

• February 25 – The deadline for registering political parties and initiative committees ends.

• February 25 – The SEC publishes the preliminary list of overseas voters.

• March 3 – The deadline for registering electoral coalitions ends.

• March 12 – The deadline for submitting multi-name candidate lists ends.

• March 17 – The deadline for verifying candidates' documentation ends.

• March 20 – The deadline for completing the candidacy documentation ends.

• March 25 – The deadline for approving multi-name lists ends.

Regarding preparations for the elections:

• 93 CEAZs across the country have been constituted and are fully functional.

• 114,780 voters will vote for the first time in these elections.

The CEC has made an assistance service available through all communication channels and has created a dedicated system for booking calls for direct assistance with CEC structures. /CNA
