Iranian official warns Israel / "Its embassies are no longer safe"

A senior Iranian military adviser warned Israel on Sunday that none of its embassies were safe after last week's attack in Damascus that was blamed on Israel.

Regional tensions have risen, threatening to widen the conflict in the Middle East, as the war between Israel and Hamas - the terrorist group designated by the United States and the European Union - entered its seventh month on Sunday.

Comments by General Rahim Safavi, who is a military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hinted that Iran would respond in kind to the April 1 attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria that killed two generals Iranians.

Israel - as per its usual practice - has not commented on the attack in Damascus.

"None of those embassies of the [Israeli] regime are safe anymore," Safavi said, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

He made the comments during a ceremony in Tehran for generals killed in the attack that leveled the Iranian consulate building.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said that Israel is prepared for any response.

"Anyone who harms us, or intends to harm us, will harm himself," he said during a meeting of the Israeli government cabinet.

CBS News reported on April 5 that US intelligence has hinted that Tehran is planning an attack that would include Shahed drones and cruise missiles.

Neither the target nor the time of the possible attack is known, but hitting an Israeli diplomatic building would be a proportionate response, the report says.

The United States warned Iran on Saturday not to attack American troops and bases in the Middle East./ REL
