A serious air accident occurred today in Georgia, where a Turkish C-130 military transport plane crashed, causing several casualties. Specifically, all 20 people on board the plane lost their lives.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the plane had taken off from Azerbaijan and was heading to Turkey when it crashed in a mountainous area near the Georgian-Azerbaijani border.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was deeply saddened by the heavy driving and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also expressed his condolences.

Georgia's Interior Ministry said radar contact was lost several minutes after the plane entered Georgian airspace and no distress signal was sent. Authorities from the three countries have launched a joint search and rescue operation. /CNA
