Another assassination attempt on Trump?/ The 49-year-old is arrested, caught

A man has been arrested after being caught with a shotgun and a loaded handgun near Donald Trump's rally in Coachella, California.

The 49-year-old suspect, Vem Miller, was driving a black SUV when he was stopped at the security checkpoint, where two firearms and a loaded magazine were found.

Mr. Miller was subsequently arrested without incident, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said. The US Secret Service said Trump was not in any danger, adding that the incident did not affect security operations. A local sheriff called the suspect a lunatic, and his office added that the meeting did not affect the safety of Trump or those attending the rally.

While Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said it was impossible to speculate what the suspect had in mind, he said he truly believed his officers had prevented a third assassination attempt.

He added that it may be impossible to prove that this was the 49-year-old's intention.

A federal law enforcement official told CBS News that there was no indication of an assassination attempt related to the incident.

Federal authorities say they are still investigating the incident and it will be up to them to pursue any additional charges./ CNA
